A forum marking the 10th anniversary of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was held in Lao capital Vientiane on Wednesday.

The forum was co-sponsored by Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies at Renmin University of China and the Lao Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

Zhao Wenyu, the economic and commercial counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Laos, said in his speech at the forum that the cooperation between China and Laos has become stronger over time, and the high degree of political mutual trust is the biggest advantage of the joint construction of the BRI between China and Laos.

Somsavat Lengsavad, former Lao deputy prime minister, pointed out during the forum that the life of the Lao people has improved because of the BRI, which is the best interpretation of the Laos-China community with a shared future.

He highlighted the achievements of cooperation between Laos and China under the BRI, saying that the Laos-China Railway, a landmark project showcasing high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, has created engineering and economic achievements not only in Laos, but even in the entire ASEAN region.

The forum also released a research report titled "Green Development of China and ASEAN under the Belt and Road Initiative, taking the China-Laos Railway as a case study."
