Meet the clever canine who has become a master paddle boarder, taking over Britain’s beaches.

While many dogs shy away from hitting the waves, Ruby is no ordinary pooch.

Having first discovered her love of the water as a pup, the Springer Spaniel soon began joining her owner on river adventures and, at just 10 months old, is more at home on a paddleboard than on dry land.

Owner, Martin Sharp, 46, who takes his board out almost every day, believes it gives his dog “freedom”.

And it has also given the dynamic duo a special bond.

“Ruby has always been able to take to paddleboards,” the fitness coach, from York, told NeedToKnow.co.uk.

“She is used to them and loves being on them.

“She goes exploring and likes swimming.

“I think she enjoys the freedom of it.”

The duo are often joined by Martin’s wife, Sarah, 45, and their daughter Hannah, 15 – travelling across York, Cumbria, Scarborough, and Scotland to discover new beaches.

These include the Ouse, the River Wharfe, Ullswater, Derwentwater, Loch Morar, Loch nan Ceall, Whitby, Pembrokeshire Coast and many more.

As a well-behaved pooch, Ruby will wait patiently, while the family inflate their boards and get wetsuits on.

But she is always ready to leap into the water.

The paddleboarding pooch is also caught on camera catching waves, with several videos showing her standing steadily on the board.

Without a care in the world, she looks nothing short of a professional.

Martin added: “Dogs don’t complain about the rain, argue about where to go or mutter if you do it wrong.

“Their low centre of gravity means they won’t easily topple in.

“Ruby is really lovely and adventurous.

“She makes the best companion.”
