A Palermo local used a drone to capture the wildfire that shut down the city's airport.

Footage from July 25 shows huge clouds of smoke blowing across Monte Grifone.

The filmer said: "This is Monte Grifone this morning, after a night of fire, it continues to burn like other parts of the province of Palermo, affected by intentional fires.

Palermo set a new record yesterday, 47.0C, the temperature hadn't exceeded 44.8C since 1998. This goes to show that climate change does exist. And we, in order not to miss anything, take the opportunity to set fire to the mountains.

Maybe we don't deserve this land!"

More than 40 wildfires has broken out in recent days in Sicily amid heatwaves and windy conditions.

The fires have prompted evacuation in multiple villages and the closure of Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO).
