Giant Hogweed is an invasive herb introduced to Britain in the early 20th century for its ornamental properties. It then spread very quickly throughout Europe in the wild.
Spectacular, it can reach up to 4 meters in height. Its stem, 4 to 10 cm in diameter, has numerous characteristic raspberry spots as well as scattered white hairs. Giant Hogweed flowers are white and grow in umbels (group of flowers growing on the same stem). The umbels can measure up to 50 cm in diameter!
Giant Hogweed sap contains photosensitive toxic agents: furocouramines.
