STORYLINE:
Three critically endangered bird species, the red-breasted partridge, the black-necked crane, and the black stork, have been frequently sighted in different locations along the Hexi Corridor, a historical and ecological region in western China.
At Qilian Mountain National Park, staff members uncovered precious infrared camera footage capturing the red-breasted partridge's appearance. The bird belongs to the Phasianidae family and Gallus genus. Typically found alone or in pairs, it forages in open areas near the forest line.
At the westernmost part of the Hexi Corridor, in Akse Kazakh Autonomous County, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, staff members of the Dasugan Lake Provincial Nature Reserve of Birds recently came across a young black-necked crane stuck in a fence during their patrol. Using a drone, they immediately rushed into the wetland to rescue the crane. After freeing the young crane and conducting a thorough examination, they found it to be in good health and released it back into the wild.
The enchanting figure of a black stork, soaring gracefully with its wings outstretched, also graced the lens of the camera in Jinta County, Jiuquan City. Known for its majestic appearance, vibrant coloration, and agile movements, the black stork epitomizes the essence of large-sized wading birds. The stork has high habitat requirements, favoring areas with clear water, abundant food, and minimal human disturbance.
