Boy, 2, trapped when lift doos close in China
A two-year-old boy was nearly crushed when lift doors closed on him as he was following his mother inside.
The incident happened as Cheng and her two young children were returning home to their apartment in Nanning, in southern China's Guangxi Region at around 3:00 pm on August 5.
CCTV footage shows Cheng and her daughter entering the lift with her son following behind them. But as the boy stepped foot inside, the doors suddenly closed and trapped the child's head.
The shocked mum immediately lunged her left hand and leg between the doors to stop them from closing shut.
With the other hand, she frantically pushed the 'open' button while instructing the girl to press the alarm. After a while, the doors finally opened and she quickly pushed the boy out and told the girl to quickly exit.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured and Cheng and her son only made away with slight bruising.
Cheng later told local media that this is not the first time the lift caused similar issues.
According to another homeowner, the lifts in that building have frequently malfunctioned ever since they moved in last year.
After the incident, the residential property management company stated that they will notify the maintenance company to repair the lifts.
The director of the maintenance company Lu, later claimed there was no issue with the lift's quality and that the accident was caused by signal interference.
He added that the company would cover the family's medical expenses.
