Homes in St Petersburg, Florida were hit by storm surges caused by Hurricane Idalia.

Footage filmed on August 30th shows residential streets left waterlogged.

The filmer, a local resident, commented: "One block from the ocean on a barrier island to the mainland of St Petersburg, Florida. Storm surges hit five feet in this area. Roads were impassible. Most evacuated... some of us stayed."

4-6 foot storm surges were expected do to Hurricane Idalia passing by 100 miles west which created outer rain bands that hit our area. Storm surges hit 5 feet in this area. Roads were impassible. Most evacuated...some of us stayed
