A burger shop heat stamps their buns with Thai tattoo designs for good luck.

The Nakorn Mu Burger restaurant's owner Kawinphat Sutthipattarawanan said he thought of putting Sak Yant - a traditional art meant to protect against evil spirits and bad luck - onto his food and extend blessings to his customers in Bangkok, Thailand.

Footage shows three cooks briefly doing a silent prayer before pressing the hot metal on the bread to transfer images of geometric figures with burn marks.

Kawinphat added they have three designs to choose from which represent fortune, love, or safety.

Their beef patties are also a fusion of Thai cuisines with flavours inspired by local dishes such as khao soi creamy, spicy noodle dish, khua kling curry, and tom yum kung sour soup.

Restaurant owner Kawinphat said: ‘The idea stemmed from the Covid-19 pandemic. Everyone is facing hardships and I aspire to extend Thai-style blessings to the world.

‘Every filling choice represents a distinct region in Thailand from the northern khao soi, the southern khua kling, and the central tom yum kung.'

The restaurant is decorated with Buddhist statues and figurines, as well as a sign that says: ‘Can't say you've arrived to Thailand until you've had this burger.'

Kawinphat added: 'The customers are impressed by the deep meanings of our burgers. It's unlike anything they've had before. Some are even more surprised to know that we pray over the burgers.'

The restaurant has three branches in the Thai capital at the Jodd Fairs Rama 9, Jodds Fairs DanNeramit, and Central World.

Sak Yant is a traditional Thai form of tattooing that is believed to have magical powers. The word 'Sak Yant' means 'to tap' or 'to tattoo' in Thai, and the tattoos are often done by Buddhist monks or spiritual masters.
