Fans of watching the night sky will be in for a rare treat this Wednesday and Thursday: they will be able to see a blue supermoon, a phenomenon that hasn't happened since 2009.

"Blue Moon" is the term used when we see the full Moon twice in a single month.

This blue Moon is also a supermoon, when Earth's only natural satellite appears brighter than usual because it is at its closest point in its orbit around our planet.

But despite its name, the lunar phenomenon has nothing to do with color: it is so called because it does not fit into the usual scheme of named moons.

The lunar spectacle will be visible on Wednesday or Thursday in different parts of the world, depending on the location.
