Police rescued a piglet that fell from a transport truck along a highway in Ohio.

Ohio State Highway Patrol officers searched for the escaped farm animal after it was seen running across US Route 35 in Ross County on September 5.

Bodycam footage shows police combing through vegetation and grabbing the terrified piglet by its legs.

The animal, which was named Pearl Pancetta, has been turned over to the Ross County Humane Society to be rehomed.

The organisation said Pearl was suffering road rash, but was otherwise healthy.

It said: 'Pearl will be joining some pot-bellied friends in a few days where she will live out her life and not become pancetta.'
