Two people were injured when a Chinese electric vehicle with an allegedly malfunctioning brake pedal crashed into an electric pole in Thailand.

Driver Supaporn Jetthamkun was leaving the car park of the JJ Mall in Bangkok in her Great Wall Motors (GWM) Haval H6 car when she lost control of the vehicle on August 11.

CCTV footage shows the white car descending from the parking lot's upper floors before skidding out of control onto the road outside. It flew out of the car park, hit a curb and landed on its side on the pavement.

Supaporn and her son in the front seat suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Writing online on September 13, Supaporn claimed that she was unable to stop the car as the brake pedal had suddenly sunk while she was driving.

She said that she had contacted her insurance company and called the GWM branch in Thailand to investigate the incident. Her car was then towed to a GWM service centre.

However, the company reportedly called her this month for an update, reportedly blaming the accident on 'human error' instead of a malfunction with the car.

Dissatisfied with the response, a furious Supaporn wrote: 'I have been driving for more than a decade. During the accident, I was alert and sober. I had not consumed alcohol and I was not using my phone. How can they say that it was my fault when I even had my foot on the brake pedal instead of the accelerator the whole time?'

She added that GWM had allegedly refused to replace the 1.35 million THB (37,700 USD) car, and told her to coordinate with her insurance agency for repairs instead.

GWM is the eighth largest automobile manufacturer in China, operating under the brands Haval and WEY. They sold 1.281 million units in 2021, generating a revenue of 21.52 billion USD.

Chinese EVs are currently the main rival to Elon Musk's Tesla cars. However, German giants are close behind, ready to pounce on market share.
