SOUNDBITE (English): STEPHEN KIAMA GITAHI, Vice Chancellor, University of Nairobi
"Culture is carried through language particularly. And we are training Chinese language at this Confucius institute, the students at the University of Nairobi are provided the opportunity to come and learn the Chinese language. We are also working with the ministry to roll out the teaching of the Chinese language in basic education. We are in the process of finalizing a curriculum to train Chinese teachers at the University of Nairobi who will be teaching Chinese when they are released and employed by the Teacher Service Commission. So we believe that we will be able through this way to learn the Chinese culture and see what it is that we can keep to ourselves and improve our own and also we have an opportunity for Chinese people also to learn our own culture and improve."
