Gas plume rises from Taal Volcano as smog threat remains
Taal Volcano belched gas plumes as smog continued to threaten nearby communities this morning.
Video shows a gas cloud rising over the volcano island in Batangas province, the Philippines, on Friday September 29.
Toxic smog caused by the emissions had triggered school suspensions last week.
Philippine seismological agency PHIVOLCS said in a September 29 bulletin that there have been no volcanic earthquakes recorded in a 24-hour period, but warned that harmful smog can still form while the volcano continues to spew sulfur dioxide.
The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
