Palestinians protest during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, in Jerusalem's Old City
RESTRICTION SUMMARY: Jerusalem- 02 October 2023. Palestinians protest during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot, in Jerusalem's Old City
STORYLINE:
Israeli police today broke into the Qibli/Al-Aqsa Mosque, the main prayer area in the Muslim holy compound in Jerusalem, known as Al-Haram Al-Sharif or Noble Sanctuary, under the pretext of doing a search as hundreds of Jewish fanatics stormed the Muslim site and police assaulted and arrested Palestinian worshippers.
Local sources and witnesses said the Israeli police entered the Qibli Mosque in an unusual move, desecrating the holy place, before leaving it again.
At the same time, police attacked and forcibly removed two Palestinian women and a man who were worshipping at the Mosque as hundreds of Jewish fanatics walked around and held religious rituals in violation of the rules of the holy site.
Jewish fanatics have intensified their presence at Al-Aqsa Mosque as they mark their Sukkot holiday heeding calls by their leaders to be present at the site with a goal to change the status quo that says the area is a purely Muslim worship area.
In order to secure the storming of the fanatics of the Mosque, the police kept Palestinian Muslims out while forcing those who were inside to leave it.
The Islamic Waqf department said more than 1100 settlers and fanatics stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque
