The Asian Games 2023 debuted robot dogs for the discus transport in a world first.

The incredible video was filmed in Hangzhou City in Zhejiang Province on October 2.

Robot dogs were seen fetching discus after being thrown by the athletes. These mechanical canines are designed to pick up the discus from the endpoint and swiftly deliver them back to the starting point, marking the first-ever use of robotic dogs for transporting sports equipment at an international event.

These robots hail from a tech company located in Binjiang, Hangzhou City, affectionately known within the industry as "four-legged robots".

While their smaller counterparts can perform actions such as lunging forward, sitting, and bowing, the latest generation boasts advanced capabilities like arithmetic calculations, translation, giving directions, and even reporting the weather.

These robot dogs had previously dazzled audiences with their appearances at both the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Spring Festival Gala performances.

According to reports, the primary reason these robots were chosen to transport discus was their speed, which is reportedly on par with a human's jogging pace. An added feature is the slot on their back designed to carry a standard discus weighing between one to two kilograms.

With the discus snugly fitted into the slot, officials can promptly control the robot dogs to transport it over an average distance of 120 metres per trip. To put that into perspective, it equates to over 7,000 metres of manual labour previously done by field workers in a traditional discus event, given an average of 60 round trips per match.

However, reports suggest that the movement of the robot dogs initially posed a risk of altering the discus' centre of gravity, potentially causing the equipment to flip and suffer wear and tear.

But thanks to the expertise of the crew, adjustments were made to the motion control algorithms, ensuring that even when carrying a load, these robotic marvels moved seamlessly.
