At least four people have died and around 50 have been injured this Wednesday after a passenger train derailed near the city of Buxar, in the state of Bihar, which is located in northern India.

The train was going from Delhi and was heading to Kamakhya (east), when, around 9:50 p.m. (local time), 21 carriages derailed, according to the ANI news agency. The injured are being taken to hospitals, while rescue teams have completed operations.

The authorities have organized a new train on which travelers will continue their journey. The Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who has expressed his condolences for "these irreparable losses", has promised that "they will find the cause of the derailment", as indicated on his profile on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter.

The accident occurred just over four months after a collision between three trains in Balasore, in the state of Odisha, which claimed the lives of 296 people and left hundreds injured, including nearly 200 with serious injuries.
