STORYLINE:

Syria's Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad cautioned Israel and its allies on Friday against any escalation of the ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza into the broader region.
   
During a joint press conference in Damascus with his visiting Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Mekdad emphasized the need to consider the human rights of Palestinians and uphold international humanitarian law, calling for immediate measures to halt the Israeli attacks and the resulting widespread destruction.
   
Mekdad underscored that continuing the current course of action would not have a positive impact on the regional situation or help resolve the ongoing conflict, urging Israel to avoid pursuing such a path.
   
He reiterated Syria's unwavering support for the Palestinian people until the establishment of their independent state.
   
For his part, Amir-Abdollahian stressed the urgent need for the international community to end the Israeli siege on Gaza.
