Footage shows riot police arresting a Palestine supporter during a protest in Frankfurt, Germany, on Saturday, October 14.

Onlookers said more than 1,200 people had gathered in the historic Paulsplatz to show their support for Israel following the attacks by Hamas on October 7, which ignited the long-running conflict in the region.

A planned pro-Palestinian gathering at the nearby Opernplatz some two kilometres away was reportedly banned in advance by the Administrative Court of Kassel.

However, unrest erupted when Palestine supporters waving the red, black, white and green flags gathered in the area and chanted. Riot police were seen detaining a number of the demonstrators.

The rallies came as Israel increased its bombardment of the coastal enclave Gaza and detained Palestinians across the occupied territories in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
