A heartwarming video captures a precious moment as a newborn two-toed sloth snuggles into its mother's fur at Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna, Austria. The cub, born on August 20, 2023, was hidden in the mother's protective peritoneum initially, but now it can be easily observed.

The unnamed baby sloth is seen lying on top of its mother's belly in the video, resembling a cozy hammock. Sloths of this species, the Linnaeus's two-toed sloth (Choloepus didactylus), inhabit northern South America and are categorized as a species of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. These fascinating creatures primarily feed on leaves and buds, conserving energy by spending most of the day dozing.

World Sloth Day, observed on October 20, was created to raise awareness about these incredible animals and their habitats. Simone Haderthauer, Head of the Zoo Department, highlighted the importance of preserving their habitat, which is under threat due to deforestation in South American rainforests.
