The air quality in Delhi plummeted to severe levels for the first time this season on Thursday, November 2, prompting school closures on Friday and Saturday.

The region was blanketed in a thick veil of air pollution, sometimes blocking sunlight after the air quality breached the 400 danger mark on a scale of 500 in the Air Quality Index (AQI).

Government agencies forecast the situation to get worse in next 15-20 days due to a surge in farm fires along with expected drop in temperature and air speed.
