Arson has been blamed for a huge pallet yard fire that burned under Interstate 10 in Los Angeles on November 11.

Despite extensive damage to the freeway, California Governor Gavin Newsom has said it will only take three to five weeks to repair it and reopen the road.

The size of the blaze, fuelled by a very large number of wooden pallets in a couple of pallet yards, made it a Major Emergency structure fire that took a long time to bring under control.

The freeway was closed and evacuated during the fire, with some cars abandoned in the process.

Until that was complete, some cars were seen driving through the flames to escape.

Burnt out cars could be seen after the fire was put out. A fire engine also sustained damage.
