Travellers on Mexican highway treat adorable families of monkeys to banana banquet

People travelling on the highway from Playa del Carmen to Cancun in Mexico came across an adorable group of monkey families on 11 November.

The simian group was clustered around a 7-Eleven convenience store.

Sensing the monkeys were peckish, the human travellers bought several bunches of bananas from a nearby truck selling fruit, and handed them to their new friends.

The monkeys were surprisingly polite recipients, even if some of them did insist on more than their fair share, and one mother appeared keen to share very little of her haul.

While the scene looked cute it is not the natural environment for the animals and wildlife experts warn that habituated feeding from humans can lead monkeys into places, behaviours and diets that are not ideal for them.
