An Indian tourist plunged to his death from a 45-storey-high balcony after a suspected argument with his girlfriend in Pattaya, Thailand.

Afraim Joseph Pallinjaleel, 25, was with his friends enjoying a tropical holiday in the notorious destination when his girlfriend called him on the mobile phone.

The couple are said to have had a heated argument before Afraim left his friends to brood on the balcony of the rented apartment at the Unixx apartment tower in the city's Bang Lamung District. However, he allegedly climbed onto the edge of the balcony and flung himself off the building.

Police Lieutenant Manasak Ponyiam of the Pattaya City Police Station said officers received a report at 11 pm on Wednesday, November 22.

They arrived at the scene and found the Indian tourist's 'severely disfigured' body near a swimming pool on the hotel's sixth floor.

Afraim's friends, speaking to police, said the group had been partying in Pattaya for two days before the fight with his girlfriend. They said they gave him some space following the row but did not expect him to jump from the balcony.

Police Lieutenant Manasak said investigators were reviewing surveillance camera footage and conducting interviews, adding Afraim's body will undergo a post-mortem examination.

He added: 'The statements from the deceased man's friends point to an argument with his girlfriend. We are checking his phone to confirm if this is true.'

Last week, a French tourist was reported to have fallen to his death from his hotel balcony in Pattaya. Benjamin Alain Roger, 43, suffered severe head injuries when landed on a table after plunging from his fourth-floor room.

While on October 20, heartbroken British pensioner Frederick Keith Adamson, 89, fell from a 15-storey condotel in the same city ' after being dumped by his lover'.

The notorious city on the east coast of Thailand has gained a reputation for its lurid nightlife and high number of unexplained deaths and injuries.

Embarrassed officials have made progress in gentrifying the region with family tourism projects but a new plan to boost the country's tourism revenue by extending bar opening hours could hamper their efforts.
