A cheeky corner kick routine in a Sunday League football match which led to a wonder goal has gone viral.

Central defender Calvin Lewis was preparing to take a corner for his team AFC Hackleton when his teammate told him he’d already taken it.

The player had gently brushed his studs over the ball without any of the opposing team, AFC Shackleton, noticing.

Footage shows Calvin, 32, then stroll over to the ball and kick it to himself into space at the edge of the penalty area.

He then smashed the ball with his left foot into the goal before running off to celebrate with his teammates who ended up winning 3-0.

A video of goal, which happened in the Nene Sunday League FA Cup match in Northamptonshire on Sunday (10/12), has gone viral.

Since the 32-second clip was uploaded to social media on Monday (11/12) it has been viewed and shared nearly 8million times.

Goal scorer Calvin, an engineer, said: "It wasn’t in the plans at all. I was just running over to take the corner as I normally do and he said ‘I’ve taken this.’"

"We’ve done it a few times for [another local team] Bugbrooke on Saturdays who we play for but it’s never come off."

"You win some, you lose some."

"I feel like we’ve completed that one now so we don’t need to do it again, we’ll find something new for the next game."

"It's pretty overwhelming to think that eight million or so people have watched my goal. That's more people than who watch Match of the Day."

"It's definitely a one-off but I keep watching the goal back. It was a brilliant feeling."

Hackleton manager Dan Porter said: "If I was the defending team, I’d be more furious that my lads were switching off that that the other team being, in my eyes, cleverer."

"It’s quite embarrassing when it doesn’t come off. It’s about timing, you don’t do it really early on. Save it for the second half."

"Maybe when they’re a bit switched off, a bit more tired."
