Just when you thought it was safe....! A 'very large' shark was captured on video off the UK coast.

Rebekka Werren, 26, who spotted the shark tight in to the promenade in Penzance, Cornwall, said it was "great to see up close"."

Video appears to show the large dorsal fin of a shark cutting through the water.

Rebekka was visiting the Penzance Promenade with her partner and parents when the 'Jaws' moment drew a crowd of curious spectators.

Content creator and photographer Rebekka, from Plymouth, Devon said: "It was really interesting."

"We’d been watching it for a little while when I took the video - first thoughts were that it was very large to be that close to shore. I wish I’d filmed it when it was closer in! "

"There were plenty of people around and a few others were watching it as well."

It is not known what species of shark the fin belonged to.

Large basking sharks are often seen off the UK coast, but only during the summer, as they migrate to warmer waters during the winter months.

The video was shot on Sunday (10 December).
