The Water Splashing Festival originated in lndia, and with the deepening influence of Buddhism in Dai ethnic areas, it has become a national custom that has been passed down for hundreds of years. At the festival, Dai people of all ages and genders dress up in festive attire, while women each carry a load of clean water to wash the dust off the Buddha statue and pray for the blessings of the Buddha's spirit. After the completion of the"Bathing Buddha" ceremony, people began to splash water on each other, expressing blessings and hoping to wash away diseases and disasters with holy water in exchange for a beautiful and happy life. The collective mutual splashing of water began like this. People use various containers to hold water, pouring out of the streets and alleys, chasing and playing, and splashing it on anyone they meet. Elegant ones use branches dipped in water to splash. "Water splashes bloom, the Dai family prospers", "Splashing all over, happiness for life"! Water flowers symbolizing auspiciousness, happiness, and health are blooming in the air, and people are splashing and sprinkling freely. Laughter is loud, their whole bodies are soaked, and their enthusiasm is high. At night, the village drums and music were heard, and people indulged in singing and dancing, creating a lively atmosphere. During the entire holiday period, in addition to traditional entertainment activities such as dragon boat racing, high-altitude ascent, Kongming lanterns, water splashing, and bag throwing, there are also new activities such as cockfighting, balloon flying, park gatherings, and material exchange. Dai and Wa ethnic men and women from Yunnan ethnic villages also wear formal attire to celebrate the Water Splashing Festival with tourists.
