Hundreds carried torches into an orchard to celebrate the ancient festival of Wassail in Kent, UK this evening (January 6).

The ancient pagan festival of wassail takes place on the twelfth night after Christmas and involves visiting an orchard to bless the trees and ward off bad spirits in the hope of providing a plentiful harvest.

The unusual tradition still takes place at the community apple orchard at New Ash Green, Sevenoaks, with a torchlit procession proceeded by Morris Dancing at the village hall.
