STORYLINE:

STANDUP 1 (English): MOHAMED AZAKI, Xinhua reporter in Yemen
"Warplanes of the U.S. and Britain launched airstrikes on several cities in northern Yemen, targeting Houthi training camps and arms depots.
The airstrikes hit the capital Sanaa, as well as the al-Dailami airbase in the northern part of the capital.
Residents said the airstrikes and explosions were very powerful, shaking the windows of their houses.
They also said that they saw the Houthi fighters evacuated camps in the center and around the city, hours before the airstrikes occurred.
The Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement earlier this morning that the airstrikes killed five of the Houthi fighters and injured six others.
He said that the airstrikes would not pass without a painful response and punishment.
He also said that his group will continue targeting the Israeli ships or those ships heading to the Israeli ports."

STANDUP 2 (English): WANG SHANG, Xinhua correspondent in Yemen
"U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Friday that the United States, in collaboration with allies such as Britain, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, and the Netherlands, has launched airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen.
Biden, in a televised statement, revealed that these airstrikes were a direct response to Houthi attacks on international maritime vessels in the Red Sea.
He added that the coordinated effort aimed to safeguard regional stability and address the rising threat posed by the Houthi forces."

Thousands of supporters of the Houthi rebel group held a rally in Sanaa Friday to protest the U.S.-Britain joint retaliatory airstrikes on the group's camps.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): RADWAN AL-SHAMI, Local resident
"Today, all Yemenis gathered here to express their outrage at the cruel and obvious assault by Britain and the U.S. on Yemen's republic and its independence on Friday, which was done to aid Israel, the invader and occupier."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Arabic): RASHAD AL-WATERI, Local resident
"This is America, which is backing Israel's violent actions against the Palestinians today. The U.S. and UK launched a military operation to blockade Yemen and formed a multi-national coalition in the Red Sea to disrupt global trade. Their goal was to prevent the Yemeni armed forces from firing missiles and drones in solidarity with the Palestinians."
