In a heart-stopping display of bravery, Sgt. Jared Turner from the Bay County Sheriff’s Office took swift action in the aftermath of last week's tornado on Thomas Drive. Body camera footage released by the Sheriff's Office captures the intense moments when Turner, the first deputy on the scene, risked his own safety to rescue stranded individuals on the second floor of a severely damaged apartment building.

As Turner arrived at the scene, he immediately grasped the severity of the situation. The second floor was virtually demolished, and people were desperately moving about amidst the wreckage. The stairwell, a crucial access point, was impassable due to collapse. Undeterred, Turner, without a second thought, utilized a resident's ladder to climb up to the second floor.

Once on the second floor, Turner coordinated the evacuation of six to eight individual apartments, ensuring everyone was accounted for. He then continued further to the south, checking additional units and calling out for those in need. Thanks to his quick and decisive actions, all residents were safely evacuated from the perilous situation.
