A young girl who wanted to help remove her little brother's loose tooth but was too afraid to do it herself instead had their pet parrot pull it out with its sharp beak.

The bizarre operation was captured on phone footage at their family home in Guangdong, in southern China, on January 17.

The girl, surnamed Zeng, told how her younger brother had a loose tooth and wanted his sister to pull it out.

However, she was too hesitant to do it herself, but instead had another idea.

She thought to try using their pet parrot which is used to always grabbing food from her mouth and see if she could get it to grab the tooth.

In the video, the young girl is seen holding the colourful bird with her hands and bringing it up to her little brother's mouth.

She then gently pointed it to the loose tooth, and surprisingly, pulled it out with its hooked bill at the first attempt.

They laughed in relief, with her brother adding that he did not feel a thing.
