Illegal Cigarette Factory Busted in Alicante, Spain
This footage was filmed and produced 24 Janaury 2024.
The Guardia Civil has apprehended a 44-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman in Busot (Alicante) for illegally manufacturing up to 12,000 cigarettes per hour. The clandestine operation, uncovered during an investigation prompted by a potential robbery, involved over 200 kilograms of tobacco, 4,300 counterfeit cigarette packs, and machinery for rolling and packaging.
Upon responding to a potential burglary in a residential area, officers stumbled upon a significant quantity of packages and equipment for cigarette production. Subsequent searches revealed 202 kilograms of tobacco, 4,368 counterfeit cigarette packs ready for filling, 3,640 boxes of tubes prepared for covering with tobacco, and 307 grams of marijuana.
The seized equipment included a machine for sealing tobacco packs and another, valued at over €12,000, designed for rolling, tubing, and filling with tobacco at a speed of up to 12,000 cigarettes per hour. The arrested individuals, a Polish man and a Moroccan woman, manipulated the product by counterfeiting a well-known tobacco brand, with the illegal goods primarily destined for Poland and Germany.
