A mutant sheep with two eyeballs squeezed into a single eye socket was born on a farm in the Philippines.

The strange-looking animal came from a healthy mother but the owners noticed it had a bizarre set of eyes and no nose.

Footage shows the sheep named Bait struggling to stand on the grass field by its owners hours after it was born in Casiguran town, Aurora province, on January 25.

Bait's tongue dangled out of its severely underbite mouth with drool flowing out of its corners.

Livestock technician Alvin Salamera, who took care of the animal after its owners asked for help, said: ‘It might be due to the inbreeding of the parents. That might have caused the genetic defects of their offspring.'

Cyclopia is a rare condition where a baby animal is born with only one eye located in the middle of the face. This happens when the two separate eye sockets in the skull fuse together during early development in the womb. Cyclopia is the most extreme form of a congenital defect called holoprosencephaly, where the brain's left and right hemispheres fail to divide normally.
