A shocking incident unfolded on Thursday, February 1, 2024, as Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) deputies responded to a report of a suspicious incident at Forest Plaza in Silver Springs. The deputies were alerted to a white female, later identified as Kendra Boone, who had attempted to take an elderly woman's keys and gain access to her vehicle. Despite deputies' attempts to intervene, Boone managed to enter a patrol vehicle via the passenger side and speed away.

A vehicle pursuit ensued, with Boone reaching dangerous speeds of over 100 MPH and driving recklessly on East Highway 40. Despite attempts by deputies to stop her, Boone's evasive maneuvers led to a devastating crash in the 26700 block of E Highway 40. The stolen patrol SUV veered off the road, passed a semi-truck, and re-entered the roadway at high speeds, resulting in a collision with a black pickup truck.

Tragically, Boone and two occupants of the truck lost their lives in the crash, while another occupant was left critically injured. The Florida Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation into this fatal traffic incident, which has left the community in shock and mourning.
