Many cultural activities were held to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year in various places around the world.

In Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, a cultural troupe performed a stunning show of Chinese martial arts, opera, and acrobatics to the delight of the audience, including the Chinese community and Ethiopian government officials.

In Malta's Valletta, "Happy Chinese New Year" concert captivated an audience of approximately 500 at the University of Malta Sunday night, fostering a closer bond between China and Malta.

In celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year, artists from the Shenzhen Opera and Dance Theater of south China's Guangdong Province treated the audience with iconic Chinese songs including "Meet at the Aobao," "Jasmine Flower," and "My Motherland."

The troupe also concluded their show with Maltese folklore "Festa." The performance skillfully presented by the Chinese artists accompanied by traditional Chinese instruments won resounding applause.

In Rwandan capital of Kigali, a cultural event to celebrate the upcoming Chinese Spring Festival was held on Friday last week.

The event at the Confucius Institute of the University of Rwanda was mainly attended by students learning the Chinese language at the institute. Activities included a lecture on the introduction of the Spring Festival, paper cutting, and writing Chinese characters representing luck and happiness.

In Spain's Barcelona, over 30 cultural groups organised this year's event to celebrate the Year of the Dragon that attracted thousands of people onto the city's streets.

Barcelona kicked off its Chinese New Year celebrations on Saturday. The streets of Barcelona were filled with a procession of colourful figures, fireworks and traditional costumes, as well as cultural shows and stalls selling Chinese food.
