STORYLINE:

Three passenger buses were buried after a massive landslide occurred on Tuesday in the southern Philippines, local media reported.

The landslide took place around 7:50 p.m. near a mining site in Maco town of Davao de Oro province, a local disaster agency said.

The passenger buses were ferrying workers from the mining site when the disaster struck, with several people buried alive in the landslide.

The local disaster agency has yet to determine how many people were affected by the landslide.

Local authorities have mobilized their personnel to rescue the victims and evacuated villagers from the affected town.

Davao de Oro is one of the provinces in the Davao region hit by floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in recent days.
