STORYLINE:

During the Spring Festival, railway workers in Qipan Railway Station, northeast China's Jilin Province, are devoted to ensuring smooth train operation.

Qipan Railway Station is one of the largest freight train marshaling stations in Jilin. It receives and dispatches an average of 160 cargo trains and more than 6,000 wagons of materials on a daily basis.

Four dispatching teams and 11 dispatchers have to work outdoors around the clock.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): JIANG CHENG, Railway staff member
"Our main task is to ensure the trains run on the designated tracks, so that they can be dispatched to various parts of the country. It's the 34th time for me to work during the Spring Festival travel rush. To ensure the safety and smoothness of railway operation, no matter how hard our work is, it is worth it!"

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): SHI CHENGGANG, Railway staff member
"Over the past few days, temperatures in Qipan have dropped sharply, reaching below minus 30 degrees Celsius. There have been more incidents of leakages in the carriage systems. As long as we receive requests for help from stations, we will immediately send workers to the scenes to deal with them."

The Spring Festival, which fell on Feb. 10 this year, is China's biggest traditional festival. This year's Spring Festival travel rush started on Jan. 26 and will end on March 5.
