Thai and U.S. divers explored the control room of a corvette that sank off the coast of Thailand during a storm in 2022.

Footage shows the team swimming through the wreckage of the HTMS Sukhothai during salvaging missions off Prachuap Khiri Khan province on February 23.

They recovered the ship's barnacle-covered nameplate, as well as a Buddha statue in the ruined control room.

The joint mission was launched on February 22, with some 49 divers onboard the U.S. supply ship Ocean Valor plunging 20 nautical miles off Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

The team has so far recovered the religious statue, the nameplate, and several documents from the ship's bridge.

The salvage operation is expected to continue until March 14 as divers recover equipment, defuse explosives, and search for the HTMS Sukhothai crew who are still missing and presumed dead.

The U.S. built HTMS Sukhothai corvette was commissioned by the Thai Navy in 1987. However, it sank in the Gulf of Thailand during a storm on December 19, 2022.

Of the 105 people on board, 76 were rescued, and 24 were killed. Five more were missing.

The salvage operation had previously been contracted out to a Chinese firm but U.S. officials raised concerns about the Communists obtaining military secrets. They then ordered the Thais to allow U.S. divers to salvage the remains of the warship.
