A crazed American tourist was arrested for allegedly bashing a parked car with a brick in Thailand.

The barefoot backpacker, later identified by police as 'Denny Ean Martini', 46, was seen looking through the window of the silver sedan while it was parked across the Seabed Grand Hotel on Phuket island early morning on April 11.

Footage shows him repeatedly punching the vehicle before attacking it with objects, believed to be bricks.

An officer from the nearby police station recorded the apparent vandalism. They later informed the owner Tharatit Na Phatthalung, 33, that his beloved Mazda had been attacked by a rampaging tourist.

Police Lieutenant Porachaya Seeyom of the Vichit district station said Denny has been detained while the investigated.

She said: 'On April 11, 2024, at approximately 5:30 am, the suspect attacked a sedan with registration No. 8947.

'The incident happened in Phuket, in the area opposite the Seabed Hotel.

'There was damage to the driver's side door, the right front door window, while there were also blood spatters from when the man injured himself.'

Tharatit has lodged a complaint against Denny. He said he had never met him before and did not know why his car was attacked.

The officers said Denny was 'talking confusingly', claiming he attacked the car because he had seen his girlfriend and his phone inside.

Speaking in the video, the car owner Tharatit said: 'The estimated damage to the door and windows is around 20,000 baht, not including other expenses. I need to take my car to the garage for repairs and will have to rent a vehicle in the meantime.

'I wanted to negotiate more compensation, but this is proving to be challenging when the tourist keeps giving different answers to our questions.'

Authorities found that Denny had entered Thailand on a 30-day tourist visa expiring soon. He was charged with violating Section 358 of the Thai Penal Code, and is facing up to three years in jail, a 6,000-baht fine, or both.
