STORYLINE:
The 10th Guangzhou Annual Investment Conference China, which took place earlier this week at the Canton Fair Convention Center in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, attracted over 1,000 representatives from 18 countries and regions.
This event, as a warm-up activity for the upcoming Canton Fair, reflected foreign investors' confidence in further revving up investment in the Chinese market.
SOUNDBITE 1 (English): FREDERICO FREIRE JARDIM, Asia President of Kraft Heinz
"China is definitely one of our top priorities in terms of growth for Kraft Heinz globally. It's one of the top markets that we have been investing to grow and develop our business. We see many opportunities. We see China's opportunities that are the increase or the improvement of the mid-class income levels, urbanization. Those are trends that are bringing for our industry, the food industry, opportunities to develop and grow."
Some attendees also highlighted Guangdong's efforts to cultivate a competitive ecosystem for unicorns.
SOUNDBITE 2 (English): RUPERT HOOGEWERF, Chairman and Chief Researcher of Hurun Report
"Some of this stands out for me in Guangzhou and also with the Greater Bay Area: it's got a very active startup ecosystem. You have a lot of policies to support, especially these fast-growing industries like AI and semiconductors, and then also new energy-related, but also biotech. You've also got a number of investors out here. And I suppose the message is, Guangzhou is committed by thousands of things to promoting these fast-growing industries. Clearly, if you're going to embrace the future, you need to embrace the future fast-growing industries."
Notably, an increasing number of foreign enterprises are choosing Guangzhou as their innovation hub. According to the municipal commerce bureau, in the first two months of 2024, about 1,000 foreign-invested enterprises were established in Guangzhou, an increase of 56.7 percent from the previous year.
