Unified efforts to address the aftermath of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse have seen significant progress as salvors, operating under the Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command, employ specialized equipment to mitigate the impact of the incident. On April 14, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland, the crane barge Chesapeake 1000, renowned as the largest floating crane along the Eastern Seaboard, was deployed to maneuver a substantial section of supporting steel from the collapsed structure.

The strategic removal of these large debris pieces is pivotal in facilitating the restoration of essential maritime routes. Particularly, the initiative aims to open a Limited Access Channel, crucial for one-way ship traffic to the vital Port of Baltimore.

The focus remains steadfast on the meticulous clearance of wreckage obstructing the Fort McHenry channel on the Patapsco River. Section 1-A of the Key Bridge, a significant component hindering access, was successfully extracted by salvors, further advancing the overarching objective of safely and efficiently reopening the vital maritime passage.
