Former fire house burns
Former fire house burns Just before 5pm Shamokin and surrounding departments were alerted to a commercial building fire at the former Liberty Fire Company, now Fire House Winery.
Police and fire chief arrived to the former bay door open with heavy smoke pushing from the building. Within seconds Shamokin Chief Pilkus reported a flash over with now heavy fire showing from the front of the structure.
A second alarm was sounded along with a request for additional RIT teams bringing units from as far as Snyder and Montour counties to help fight the blaze.
Schuylkill County sent several units as well to transfer and provide coverage while crews worked the scene.
The state police fire marshal is investigating and as of this time no cause of the fire had been found




Northumberland County Communications Center dispatched a working commercial building fire at Fire House Winery, 211 East Sunbury Street, Shamokin, PA.
Police confirmed a working kitchen fire with heavy fire blowing out side “A”.

City Patrolman Derek Jenkins said he arrived to find heavy smoke flowing from the open bay door of the business. .
Fire Chief Ken Pilkus, who had fire command, said a flashover occurred on the first floor, which is a near-simultaneous ignition of most combustible material within an enclosed area.
"When I got here, there was a heavy smoke condition followed by a heavy volume of fire," Pilkus said.

Flames filled the first floor, which consists of a kitchen, wine tasting and seating area. Heavy, black smoke poured from the second- and third-floor windows of the building.
A second-alarm was requested, which brought units from as far as Shamokin Dam to the scene.
Ladder trucks from Shamokin, Overlook and Sunbury were positioned on Sunbury Street while Mount Carmel's ladder truck set up to the rear of the building on East Dewart Street.
Firefighters took multiple hose lines to the front and rear of Firehouse Winery. They also entered the adjoining homes of 209 and 215 E. Sunbury St.
Pilkus said there was a light smoke condition in the adjoining properties, but the fire was kept to Firehouse Winery.
The fire was knocked down at 5:36 p.m. Firefighters then began looking for any remaining pockets of fire.
As of 6:30 p.m., no injuries had been reported.
Firehouse Winery opened in 2016 after an extensive remodel of the building, which was built in the late 19th century. For decades, it served as the headquarters of Liberty Hose Co.

SHAMOKIN — Emergency crews responded to a second alarm fire at Firehouse Winery, formerly Liberty Hose Company, on Sunday.
Shamokin Fire Chief Kenny Pilkus said the call came in around 5 p.m. and emergency personnel were dispatched to the business at 211 East Sunbury St.
Pilkus said he was the first to arrive on the scene and witnessed a heavy smoke condition, which immediately became a heavy fire condition out of the garage door.
The first floor of the building was damaged severely. The fire eventually extended to the second floor and parts of the third floor, Pilkus said.
The building surrounding the winery were not damaged. The fire caused no injuries to emergency personnel or members of the public, according to the fire chief.
The Liberty Hose Company relocated in 2021 and the East Sunbury Street building was transformed into a winery and restaurant, Pilkus said.
