Huesca, Spain - May 1, 2024

A tragic incident unfolded at Sorrosal Waterfall in Broto, Huesca, as the Guardia Civil retrieved the lifeless body of a 35-year-old man. The victim, a resident of Madrid, was rappelling down the gorge when he suddenly disappeared.

The event occurred on Tuesday, April 30th, when a witness alerted the Guardia Civil after noticing the rappeler descending the waterfall. However, shortly thereafter, only the rope remained, with no sign of the individual.

Specialized teams from the Guardia Civil's Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (Greim) in Boltana, aided by aerial support from Huesca, swiftly mobilized. Despite challenging environmental conditions and the river's flow, they located the man's lifeless body on the penultimate rappel of Sorrosal Gorge.

On Wednesday, May 1st, rescue efforts resumed, with members of Greim and the Huesca Air Unit participating. After locating the rappeler in a pool, his body was airlifted and transported to Boltana's helipad before being taken to Huesca's morgue for autopsy.
