York Regional Police's Auto Cargo Theft Unit (ACTU) and the Integrated Property Crime Task Force made significant strides on April 30, 2024, in combating vehicle theft in the region. At around 7:30 a.m., investigators identified two stolen vehicles in the vicinity of Overlea Boulevard and Thorncliffe Park Drive.

Prompt action ensued as the ACTU, assisted by the Canine Unit, moved swiftly to apprehend the suspects. One suspect was successfully arrested following a brief foot chase. However, the situation took a dangerous turn when the second suspect opted to flee, accelerating a vehicle directly at law enforcement officers.

In a harrowing sequence of events, the suspect's reckless maneuver resulted in a collision with both a police vehicle and an officer. The impact caused the suspect's vehicle to careen into a nearby building before the perpetrator fled on foot.

Thankfully, the injured officer sustained only minor injuries and was promptly treated at a nearby hospital before being discharged shortly after.

Authorities have issued a public appeal for information leading to the identification and apprehension of the fleeing suspect. Citizens are urged to contact law enforcement immediately with any pertinent details regarding the incident.
