The University of Michigan graduation ceremony was attacked by pro-Palestine protesters.

Footage shows the demonstrators, who were also graduating students, raising the Palestinian flags over their heads on May 4.

They tried to march towards the stage but were prevented by campus police.

Onlooker Benny Shaevsky said: 'I'm a graduating senior at the University of Michigan. This was my graduation ceremony at Michigan Stadium.

'The anti-Israel protestors began when the secretary of the navy began speaking, and a plane with the anti-Israel message began circulating in the air.

'The protesters were violating graduation rules by carrying flags and disrupting the graduation to the point where I could not hear the speakers. Despite this the police refused to remove them and thus continued during the remainder of the ceremony.'

Israel has blitzed the Gaza Strip in retaliation for an attack by the governing party Hamas on a Jewish music festival On 7 October last year.

However, the situation - which Israel claims is self-defence - has attracted criticism from around the world.

Craig Mokhiber, a director at the United Nations, has resigned over the organization's 'failure' to act against what he called a 'text-book case of genocide' by Israel against Gaza.
