A hero neighbour saved a little girl choking on candy outside his shop.

Decha Sriwansiri, 46, was working inside his store when he heard a five-year-old kid named Chomphu suddenly crying while playing with friends out front in Bangkok, Thailand on April 29 afternoon.

CCTV footage shows Decha rushing out of the shop to help the youngster as the older girl named Tong pointed out something was blocking Chomphu's throat.

When Chomphu had not stopped crying, Decha administered a Heimlich manoeuvre on her until she vomited and calmed down. His wife then gave her a drink of water.

Decha said: 'I saw three children when I was working inside the room. Suddenly, I heard a voice of children asking for help, so I rushed to help them.

'At first, I tried to make her drink water to help her swallow the candy, but it was ineffective.

'Therefore, I tried the procedure I studied by pressing on her chest, causing the candy to go into the stomach, which improved her condition.'

The girl's mother also arrived and gave her water to drink while still crying pointing to her chest. The girl had swallowed the candy when she vomited.

Decha added: ‘At that time, I also didn't know what to do at first because I had never encountered this kind of incident before.

‘I used to do volunteer work, but lately, I was busy with regular work.

‘I wanted parents to warn their children to take care and to be careful when they eat snacks.'

Meanwhile, Chomphu's mum Noei, 38, said she was thankful for their neighbour's help.

She said: 'I was shocked. I searched for the candy in her throat but it had gone down thanks to our neighbour.

She added that Chomphu's condition was normal with no further symptoms.
