A missing zebra was safely caught after a six-day search in Washington.

The animal, affectionately named Shug, escaped along with three others on April 28 near North Bend and was successfully found in the Riverbend neighbourhood on May 4.

Footage shows the mare feeding on grass and being loaded into a truck to return home.

The owner, who was transporting the animals from Winlock, Washington, to Anaconda, Montana, made a brief stop off Interstate 90 in the North Bend area to address a trailer issue. However, during this momentary pause, all four zebras escaped.

While three of the zebras were swiftly recaptured within hours and resumed their eastward journey the following day, Shug eluded capture and roamed the foothills of the Cascades for several days.

Shug was successfully apprehended in a collaborative effort involving private citizens and animal control officers from Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC).

Despite her prolonged adventure in the wilderness, the zebra appeared to be in good health.

RASKC extends its gratitude to its partners, including the King County Sheriff's Office, King County Parks, the Washington State Patrol, the city of North Bend, and the community members whose assistance played a pivotal role in the successful outcome of the rescue mission.

RASKC is expected to release further details regarding the zebra's rescue in the near future.
