A sea turtle carried a shellfish on its back like an underwater cartoon scene - with the creature hitching a ride on its body.

The marine mammal passed by divers who were exploring a sunken ship covered in corals. They were then amused when they noticed that it had another creature resting on its shell in Chonburi, Thailand, on May 5.

Footage shows the green sea turtle gliding 5ft-away from the divers who were interrupted from their work when they saw it.

The animal floated around the shipwreck, still carrying the little shell, before leaving the humans with their activity.

The sea turtle was not intentionally carrying the smaller riders but its large size and hard shell provide surfaces that other ocean dwellers can cling to or latch onto for different purposes like parasitism, camouflage or free rides.

This commensalism or the biological interaction where one organism benefits from the relationship does not harm the turtle.
