Police are hunting a bus driver who clipped and injured a tourist on a bicycle.

Footage shows the bus straying out of its lane and nudging the cyclist, causing him to slam into the road near a school in
Pattaya, Thailand on May 8.

The driver allegedly left the scene while the foreigner crawled to the roadside to avoid being hit by oncoming vehicles.

Concerned locals checked to see if he was fine, and a kind worker pulled his bicycle to the side. He was complaining of an injury to his arm.

Sitthichok Kaewsa-nga, 23, a boxer who witnessed the incident, said: ‘I was jogging when I saw the foreigner riding a bicycle with his friends. The bus drove closely alongside him, causing him to fall.

'The bus didn't stop and continued on the road. Myself and other bystanders rushed to help the victim, who appeared to be quite old.

'He had an injury on his right elbow, with a large tear wound exposing the bone.'

They helped the tourist to go to the hospital. Meanwhile, officers from the Pattaya City Police Station said they are trying to identify the foreigner and bus driver.

The spokesman said: 'We have seen the video and are currently trying to contact the foreign victim to gather more details about the incident.

'Our arrest team is visiting the scene to collect evidence and obtain the bus's license plate number for legal action.'

Despite being one of the wealthiest countries in Asia, Thailand suffers from chronic underinvestment in its highways and education, contributing to its poor road safety levels. Only a handful of African countries are worse.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.
