Artist makes incredible shadow art of Mona Lisa from pieces of cardboard
An artist made an incredible shadow art portrait of Mona Lisa from pieces of cardboard.
The third-year fine arts student Thanin Jaiboon put together the materials along with popsicle sticks and strings to form the iconic Leonardo Da Vinci's painting when it was hit by sunlight in Khon Kaen, Thailand.
Footage shows the Mona Lisa shadow painting formed on the wall. The image slightly changed depending on the time of day.
He said: 'This is the first of my experimental pieces utilizing natural light, which is challenging to create due to the competition against time.
'It involves calculating the angle of light and performing various calculations. Moreover, this work can be displayed in two ways - the work can be displayed outside the room, relying on natural sunlight.
'There will be a time when the shadow is complete, approximately lasting ten minutes, and the shadow will continuously change shape according to the direction of the sun's light.
'Importantly, for one day, the work can be shown twice - the first time using the light from the eastern sun morning, and the second time using the light from the western sun evening.
'Alternatively, the work can be displayed indoors without relying on natural light but instead utilizing light from light bulbs. The light and direction from the bulbs will be calculated to be as close to sunlight as possible. The shadow will be the same shape.'
