Heavy rain pounded Houston, Texas, USA today causing serious floods.

This footage shows a part of State Highway 288 completely submerged, as a car tries to reverse out of the flooded area.

The filmer later wrote online: "This driver broke from a pack of cars and trucks backed up at an exit ramp and actually drove into the water, thinking they could get through.

"The car sat in the water that was above the vehicles tail pipe for at least five minutes before reconsidering and backing out of the water to head for the exit ramp."

Significant portions of State Highway 288 in Houston, a major access route to the Texas Medical Center and Houston's southern suburbs (Alvin, Pearland, etc.) are below grade and act as a storm water retention pond in heavy rains.
